Anil Dash

Posted by admin

To all my typepad readers. go slam silly harro over on my anil dash post ;) He’s misbehaving and i’m tired of editing his comments.

I’m sure you know anil dash is just the coolest guy, and all he’s doing is having fun online in his spare time…so yeah…regardless of how i feel about it I don’t think harro’s comment towards anil was fully justified.

WordPress Does it Again

Posted by admin

Wordpress managed to release version 2.6 a month before the expected launch date, which is great right? I’m not so sure, reading up on things it’s evident that version 2.6 is bug filled and causing problems for bloggers! People are already expecting wordpress 2.61 to be out soon to fix these issues, maybe WP should have took there time and launched a month later after some half decent beta testing!

Not really, i’m blogging aren’t i? But so many people have that problem, they setup WP on their own domain and forget what their password was, they sometimes forget what email address they signed up with, and if that’s gone, you’re blog is pretty much done for, until now.

I was reading a regular forum I lurk at, BlackHat Forum at shoutingzone.com and came across an amazingly useful topic.

Some member lost his password and no longer had access to his email address, so this guy called Duane, who seems to be some sort of hardcore coder replied, this was the reply to the I lost my wordpres password topic;

I was about to head to bed, lucky I saw your topic.

It’s not at all hard so don’t worry about it. You’ll be blogging again in 5minutes.

First thing you have to do is go to this site http://www.opinionatedgeek.com/dotnet/tools/Base64Encode/Default.aspx and enter the new password you want, encode it and when that’s done, scroll down and copy the base64 code, it will look something like this dGhpc2lzeW91cnBhc3N3b3Jk (that’s the encoding for thisisyourpassword)

Save that somewhere safe, and remember what the original password was.

Now log into your cpanel, go to phpmyadmin.
Select the DB that contains your blog in it, (if you don’t remember then find the name in you config.php file) and select that.

Select wp_user and then Browse. Now Edit the admin username, simply paste the password you encoded in the field where it says user_pass >> varchar(64) There you’ll find some random letters and numbers, like I said, replace those with the random letters and numbers we got after encoding our password before.
Select Go to the bottom right and you’re done. go to your admin login page for your blog, type in admin as the username and your new password, this is not the numbers and letters but what you initially typed in as a password before encoding it.

That’s it, you’re in. Feel free to change the email address in your admin profile.

This is great, now I don’t have to worry about remembering my passwords for the blogs I have! haha I can forget them at any time and then just go change them when I want to login! Very useful tips from this coder Duane, Kudos to him! Kudos to shoutingzone.com !

My good friend Moni, The Slovenian Designer that is, has recently posted a blog that has near saved my life! I was in dire need of decent landing pages, about 15 and was praying for some sort of miracle, because I’d have to eventually set them all up and that would take me hours I really did not have.

As I was doing my daily rounds, I could not believe what I saw, a blog post dedicated to Landing Page Designs!! I must be the luckiest son of a earthling ever! Not only did he have an amazing sample of his work, but he’s offering for a killer price (he’ll probably give me a few of his landing page templates for free, because we’re friends, duh!)

I fell in love with the real estate virtual assistant landing page, although that too was amazingly ironic, because well, read the post below!! I know, de ja vu or what?! Anyway you must check his page out, I order you! As for me, I’m shooting him an email, suck up a little, beg a bit and I’ll be 5 landing page templates richer ;)

Watshit has recently caused a stir with their Real Estate Virtual Assistant blog post. I rarely make these sorts of posts but I had to…and those of you reading this, blogladies, preacher, eli, Jason, brad, Emma, all you guys with blogs, please spread the word about Watshit to raise online scam awareness! It’s unreal and something has to be done about it.

Even virtual real estate sites? You have got to be kidding me! I’ll be honest, I did not even know Real Estate Virtual Assistants existed till earlier today!? What on earth are they supposed to do? Find virtual farming land and sell you it (not so funny joke I know).

Watshit really opened up my eyes to a lot of its information, and I wanted to make a blog post about the things I do to avoid being scammed like that. (I have never been scammed - that’s if you exclude my teenage nephew…he’s a devil!)

  • First thing I check when dealing with any company, and long before I pay for any service, I do the following.
  • Check their contact details, and make sure they are legit individuals.
  • Check if their company is a registered one or just an online website.
  • Call them up several times to make sure they actually pick up.
  •  Then I take as many email copies for record reasons.

No the most simple thing EVERYONE must do, do a quick Yahoo! Search for the service you want to purchase from said company. Add the words ‘bad’ ’scam’ ‘fraud’ and so on before and after the company name and company website url in your searches. This is a really easy and effective way of finding unsatisfied clients or scam reports like those on Watshit.com.

I know this is not the most detailed blog post about this issue, but I really wish from the bottom of my heart, that something is done about these online scammers. Stricter penalties online, something harsh to scare them a little! I suggest the death penalty but then again a lot of you wont agree with me, oh well.

Just be careful when dealing with people online, EVERYONE is a potential scammer. It’s that simple.

Blogs You Should Bookmark

Posted by admin

There are several blogs I follow, from design blogs to marketing ones to absolutely useless ones!

One I follow is for the spletni oblikovalec (Slovenian designer - www.sloveniandesigner.com), moni I think his name is, this guy is creative and I love his style. He’s also one of those oblikovalec spletnih (web designers) that helps people out for free, which in my books, is an auto plus! kudos to him!

The Blog Ladies I keep in my bookmarks and check out from time to time, mainly because they just prove that there are hot female Blogger’s/SEO’s online! Here’s a backlink leading you guys away from my blog, to theirs, because they rock. It’s called mutual respect God damn it!

Michael Kane’s blogs! Yes I read my own blogs! So what? Well I read my Website marketing blog more so than my personal blogs, then again that’s still not normal i’m sure.

There are a couple more, some recent ones like Preachers Pen blog recently, Chris has a great writing style driving me to read his posts every now and again.

How can I forget my buddy  The Blackhat who’s posts intrigue and amuse me. He knows as well as I do, he’s mostly full of crap, but I love him - in a manly none gay way (mainly because we pretty much hate the same people and therefor see eye to eye). His blog is informative as well as eye opening and should be a bookmarked site for all webmasters.

Who else? There’s a few more people but i’m out of time, need to run and get something done! That’s it, later

The Biggest Yahoo Fan ALIVE

Posted by admin

Well it’s not, this is a serious post, very serious, do I have your attention? Ok good, read on.

I am without a doubt Yahoo’s biggest fan, no question about it.  Sure I don’t have Yahoo! tattooed on the inside of my thighs or the entire Tattoo wordrobe people can buy off the net these days for like $700 a piece, no I’m Yahoo!’s biggest fan because I care. That’s right, and yes I will explain myself, sheesh let me babble on a little so I can make this look like a long important serious sort of post! It’s not like i’m filling it up with keywords and the likes now is it?!

Not a day goes by that I don’t use Yahoo daily… that I don’t link someone to a Yahoo! Search (as I did now) or praise yahoo for what it has achieved. You see a lot of people have sent me emails wondering why I ‘claim’ to be Yahoo! BIGGEST fan, well here’s why.

I love everything about Yahoo, from the tiny things to the  things behind the scenes which I really don’t get, I love the Yahoo! logo, plus it’s a word that should (is it?) be printed in dictionaries! When we achieves something spectacular in life, or win the lottery, or find an extra cigarette (smoking is bad for you) in our desk drawer when we really thought we were out of smokes, what’s the first thing we scream? YAHOO! Or at least that’s what I do, which goes to show you how much I LOVE Yahoo!

Yahoo has helped me through a lot, days and nights of researching for school projects, keeping in touch with my friends, and ex-girl friends, Yahoo! Answers even helps me find a way to bake Jelly Beans! Ok they turned out looking more like little sugar lead bullets that could probably pierce armor but hey, you can find an answer to just about anything there!

I love Yahoo’s main page, with the little news section, politics related, sports, entertainment, health, medical news snippets, sure I never bother reading it in full detail but it’s an amazing way to show my friends I read the news, I’m up to date, snippets are all I need to hold a 5min long conversation, usually anything longer than that and I resort to screaming fire (followed by YAHOO after it’s discovered that there was no fire) or pointing up in the air and running in the opposite direction (yawn).

So yes, this looks like a long serious blog post now, but i’ll be honest, I simply love Yahoo! because it makes everyday online search that much simpler. Not to mention it provides us with YIM(Yahoo Instant Messenger - which kicks ass btw) and Flickr (which also kicks some serious ass).

Why do a claim I’m the BIGGEST YAHOO FAN EVER? Because I can, and because I honestly am. Yahoo has shaped the way the internet works for me, even though I wont buy any of those $700 Yahoo! tshirts, or tattoo Yahoo! Search on my buttocks, i’ll always be a loyal user of Yahoo!

Now if only I was invited to Yahoo! Headquarters! I would wow them with my insider info about their own service and thank everyone there personally, asking for too much? Probably but hey, who knows, one day some Yahoo! dude or chick will see this and email me at (mike@iheartyahoo.com) offering me first class tickets on their Yahoo private jet to spend a week at some 5 star hotel with an all you can eat tab, oh and visit the headquarters of Yahoo! Anything can happen these days right?

I am Yahoo! ’s biggest, most loyal fan and forever will be . Simple as that!

So go check it out and learn you lazy bastards!

What Are Yahoo! Widgets?

Posted by Michael

Yahoo! Widgets help you save time and stay current by bringing an always-updated, at-a-glance view of your favorite Internet services right to your desktop. The Yahoo! Widget Gallery offers over 4,000 desktop Widgets - the most available anywhere online. Yahoo! Widgets is the only major desktop Widgets platform that works on both Windows and Mac OS.

Almost all Yahoo! Widgets were dreamt, designed, and built by members of our bustling developer community. Our authors range from professional software designers and developers, to hobbyists, to major media outlets, to Madison Avenue ad agencies. If you love a Widget (or have useful feedback), find that Widget in the Gallery and make sure to share your thoughts.

How do I install Yahoo! Widgets?

You must first install the Yahoo! Widget application in order to run Yahoo! Widgets. You can download the Widget application and a starter set of Widgets from from widgets.yahoo.com/download. Click the button Get Our Starter Pack.
Note that some installations require an administrator’s ID and password, depending on your privileges.

  • Download both the installer and the zipped file of starter Widgets.
  • Launch the installer. After installation, do not start Yahoo! Widgets.
  • Unzip the starter Widget zip into My Documents\My Widgets for Microsoft Windows. For Apple OS X, unzipping puts a Widgets folder on the desktop; to install the set, drag the folder to Documents.
  • Start Yahoo! Widgets from Start > Programs > Yahoo! Widgets or Applications:Yahoo! Widgets.

You can access all your Widgets by selecting Open Widget from the gear menu in the dock, Windows system tray, or OS X menu bar. For more information about the Widget Dock, refer to this article.
